Learning Through Innovation: My Journey as a Program Manager in an AI-Driven Product Environment

Author - Chandan Karre, Technical Project Manager, Wallero

Working as a Program Manager at Wallero has been a continuous learning journey for me. One of the most exciting aspects of my role is the opportunity to work across multiple products, business domains, technologies, and teams—especially as we increasingly explore and implement AI-enabled capabilities.

The learning curve is significant, but so is the opportunity.

From Product Management to AI-Enabled Business Solutions

Today, AI is no longer limited to research labs or large technology organizations. Businesses across industries are looking for practical ways to use AI to improve productivity, customer engagement, decision-making, and overall business outcomes. At Wallero, I have had the opportunity to work closely with products that incorporate AI-driven features such as AI chat, AI-powered summarization, intelligent insights, automation, and other smart capabilities.

What makes this experience interesting is that AI is not being implemented simply because it is a trending technology. The real question we continuously ask is:

“How can AI solve a real business problem and create measurable value?”

That shift in thinking is extremely important.

Every Product Brings a New Learning Opportunity

Working across multiple products has helped me understand that every product comes with its own challenges.Different products have different users, business models, workflows, expectations, and success metrics. As a Program Manager, this requires me to understand not only the product requirements but also the business objective behind every feature.

For example, an AI chat feature can be much more than a chatbot. Depending on the business, it can help users find information faster, reduce repetitive support activities, improve customer engagement, or guide users toward the right product or service.Similarly, AI-powered summarization can help businesses turn large amounts of information into meaningful insights, saving time and enabling teams to focus on decisions rather than manually reviewing information. This is where I see the real potential of AI.

AI Should Enable Better Business Outcomes

One of the biggest lessons I am learning is that successful AI implementation is not about adding as many AI features as possible. It is about identifying where AI can make a meaningful difference.

For one business, AI may improve customer support. For another, it may help analyze feedback. In another scenario, it could summarize conversations, identify important trends, automate repetitive tasks, or provide actionable insights to management. The technology may be similar, but the business impact can be completely different. This makes product development even more interesting because we need to continuously connect three important areas:

Business Problem → Technology Solution → Measurable Outcome

When these three are aligned, AI becomes much more powerful.

The Program Manager’s Learning Curve

From a Program Manager’s perspective, working in an AI-driven environment has also changed the way I look at product development.Earlier, product discussions were largely focused on requirements, timelines, dependencies, development, testing, and delivery.

Today, there are additional questions:

  • Can AI solve this problem more effectively?
  • Is there a better way to automate this process?
  • What data is required?
  • How accurate and reliable is the AI output?
  • How will users interact with the AI?
  • How do we measure the actual business value?
  • How can we make AI useful without making the product unnecessarily complicated?

These questions have added a completely new dimension to product and program management.

Learning Never Stops

One thing I genuinely appreciate about working at Wallero is the exposure to different products and technologies.Every product discussion brings a new challenge. Every feature brings a new learning opportunity. Every customer requirement provides a different perspective. And every AI implementation teaches us something new.For me, this is one of the most valuable parts of being a Program Manager in today’s technology environment.

I don’t look at the learning curve as a challenge alone. I see it as an opportunity to continuously evolve.

Looking Ahead

AI is still evolving, and we are only beginning to understand its full potential across different business categories.

I believe the next phase of product development will not simply be about building software applications. It will be about building intelligent business solutions that can understand, assist, automate, summarize, recommend, and help organizations make better decisions.

Being part of that journey is exciting. As I continue working across different products at Wallero, I look forward to learning more, experimenting with new possibilities, collaborating with talented teams, and, most importantly, building solutions that create real and measurable business value.

The technology will continue to evolve. The learning will never stop. And that is what makes this journey exciting.
